Okay everyone, this shows why you should be reading this blog. To all those people who use the library's lovely computers, the storm watch means that the library's computers are going to be down again..... This means NO Internet access WHATSOEVER.
Please inform your friends about this so that eventually the whole school will know, and there will be less disappointed people walking OUT of the library because there is no Internet access. Also, tell them that this is one of the main reasons why you should be following our blog..... No BlackBerry can tell you that the storm is going to affect St.Joseph's Convent's Internet!

Divali !
To all students of St.Joseph's Convent, as always, we await the day when the Divali presentation is made after lunch in our courtyard. Not only is it exciting, but we miss one, maybe two periods in the afternoon!!!!
On the schedule is the usual: an exciting dance, our form 6's modelling their finest Hindu wear (including the boys!) and much, much more. Just remember: even though you're not Hindu, Divali is a festival that everyone can celebrate.
So, just remember that school still ends at 2:30, so no leaving during the Divali presentation please! And prepare for some serious entertainment!!!!

Sports Day
OMG! It's finally here! The day we've all been waiting for, especially, our captains who are killing themselves with work. We all know it's on a Friday, best day ever since we don't have to go to school and do work.
Sports Day really starts off with the inspection of the houses, a little news flash, if you don't clean your shoes, your captains are going to literally rip your head off: Why? Because your house will lose points. We would usually continue with the march pass (you know the thing, where they do the mark time , eyes front and all those things). Then, this is everyone favorite entertainment on Sports Day because that's when the cheerleaders do their individual dance routine and then All the cheerleaders dance to a killer mix of rocking songs we love.
The houses would then proceed to take part in friendly competition or so they want us to believe, what can i say we are competitive people. Most people, tend to enjoy the tug-o-war and the teachers competitions, which I am not certain what they are this term. There are competitions among year groups and of course you will get a prize if you win, theirs also the boys' races, this attracts many people, just saying! A next favorite is the dance off, done by the form 3's, rel bess!
The people who love their food, there is a luncheon by the St.Vincent The Paul's club, and yes you have order and pay before hand, there is also The Tuck Shop on the compound , with drinks, snacks and other eats.
See you people on the day of the best Sports Day in the whole of Trinidad, don't forget to walk with your House Spirit!
Yours Truly

SCHOOL LIBRARIES
Yup…you saw right…the topic is School Libraries. So your most probably asking how’s she going to make this interesting…right?
I personally sit here wondering too, so I’ll start off with a definition…definitions always help…
A school library is a library in your school that equips you with resources such as books, the internet, encyclopedias, films, recorded sounds and digital media to help you better apply yourself to your school work.
Secondly I will say that Library Prefects are not nerds! We’re just too cool for words! You must praise us as we will one day take over the world…
On a more serious note let us talk about the history of school libraries The later part of the 19th century marked the beginning of the modern American library movement with the creation of the American Library Association (ALA) in 1876 by a group of librarians led by Melvil Dewey.
I’m going to end off by saying use your library efficiently if your have one because it means you’re lucky enough to have one.

The House of Night
Okay so we ALL know that ever since The Twilight Saga arrived to the big screen there’s been a tsunami of never-ending vampire-werewolves books that people say ‘suddenly came out…right?...Wrong. Truth is they’ve been around since dinosaurs roamed the earth…just kidding. As in twilight’s case it’s been published in 2005 but really hit bestseller in 2008.
As for The House of Night series it was published in 2007 and sold more than 7 million copies in JUST North America .
This chart-topper is about a once-human-now-fledging (fledging is the term used for a vampyre in training), Zoey Montogomery who is very loved by her goddess Nyx. As a human Zoey is the daughter of a once adored mother Linda Heffer and her ‘step-loser’ (that’s what she calls her stepfather), John Heffer, an elder in The People of Faith who discriminates vampyres and disagrees with anything not to do with his religion. Her only family member she can really relate to is her grandmother, Sylvia Redbird who follows Cherokee lifestyles. Newly marked by a vampire tracker, Zoey arrives at the House of Night, her crescent shaped mark already filled in dark blue, something only adult vampire have…making her stand out when all she wants to do is fit in, only to find out she has an affinity for all five elements; water, fire, air, earth and spirit.
Upon meeting Neferet, high priestess and also her mentor, Zoey discovers that she isn’t that only thing that’s not normal at The House of Night… With the help of her friends at the House of Night; Damien, Erin and Shaunee (the Twins) and her best friend and also roommate Stevie Rae who have affinities for air, water, fire and earth in the order and even a mean girl and former Dark Daughters leader and her intriguing and not to mention poetic boyfriend, Erik fight evil, uncover mysteries and still manage to do some charity work on the side with the help of Zoey’s Grandmother. As Zoey and her friends conquer evil her dark blue marks extend on her forehead, Shoulders, palms and chest showing, again, how much she is adored by her goddess Nyx.
This is a phenomenal story about a vampyre girl and I would recommend it to anyone. There are seven books in all; Marked, Betrayed, Chosen , Untamed, Hunted, Tempted, the late Burned and Awakened that is expected for release January 4th, 2010 …
So what are you waiting for??? Pick up a House of Night novel and start reading!!
